OPERATING PRINCIPLES

How I work under uncertainty.

The aim is not to remove uncertainty. It is to identify the uncertainty capable of changing the decision.

Leadership teams rarely suffer from a shortage of intelligence or activity. The harder problem is learning fast enough to change a commitment before the cost of being wrong becomes too high.

SIX PRINCIPLES

01

Decisions before activity

A busy organisation can still be standing still. Work matters when it is connected to a decision and an intended outcome.

02

Evidence before certainty

Certainty is usually too slow or impossible. The goal is enough evidence to make the next decision responsibly.

03

Strategy is a hypothesis

A strategy is a set of beliefs about customers, markets, capability and timing. Reality must be allowed to change it.

04

Commercial evidence beats internal consensus

Twenty people agreeing does not equal one customer buying. Alignment matters, but it cannot replace market behaviour.

05

Fundraising is an operating function

The company must know what investors need to believe, what evidence supports it and what the capital will unlock.

06

Systems beat heroics

Growth becomes durable when priorities, ownership, decisions and learning can move without depending on a few people.

Evidence

What are we assuming that we cannot yet demonstrate?

Every engagement begins by turning that question into a decision the company can act on.
